2013 Summit on the Hill

Presented by The Honorable Congressman Brad Sherman and the Congressional Entertainment Caucus,
On the Hill is a free public event held annually on Capitol Hill as part of the DC Independent Film Festival.

The Summit provides leading industry, legal and government experts the opportunity
to discuss key issues that impact the independent film and media industry.

How  can government and the private sector positively impact independent media production in the United States today despite the economic challenges?

Speakers:

Introduction: Deirdre Evans-Pritchard, Executive Director, DC Independent Film Festival

Melissa Houghton, Executive Director, WIFV: An overview of the state of affairs in independent media arts production and distribution today with  suggestions on how  to move forward in terms of policy, legislation and working together to implement change.

Jack Gerbes, Maryland Film Commissioner: The strengths and weaknesses of the film commission structure and its relationship to funding. Suggestions on how to move forward.

Noel Paynter, Tax Incentives LLC: Existing tax incentives, possible changes and examples of  the ideal tax incentive arrangement for independent film production

Philip Marshall, Maryland Public Television: How public television is funded and connects to  independent filmmakers. What can public television offer and what public television like to offer to independent production and distribution and to the support of the arts.

Jane Clark, Film Director (Meth Head): How  filmmakers make decisions about their production, location, and scope based on financial incentives, restrictions and funding.
