Tax Incentives for filmmakers exist at both the federal and state levels and have been credited with preventing film production from leaving the United States and stimulating the remarkable growth of independent film production. The federal tax incentive was enacted as part of the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004, Section 181 of the Internal Revenue Code. The program, which gave significant tax breaks to investors in shows shot in the U.S., came to an abrupt end on December 31, 2016 but two new incentives exist in the Tax Code for 2018. Come learn from the experts about the changes in the tax code, how this impacts film production as a job and income generating activity, how state taxes compare to/intersect with federal taxes and the financial health of independent filmmaking in the US.
