One for the Road
Directed by Fernanda Faya
USA / 2018 / 11:50mins
As she moves from Brazil to NY, the filmmaker looks back at her grandma’s migration as a way to find traces of her own identity. The foreign yet intimate look at NYC and its inhabitants unfolds into a visual letter as she collects images of her new surroundings.
Fernanda Faya is 31 years old and was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She graduated from Faculdade Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP) with a degree in Film Studies and a concentration in cinematography, in 2008. Faya simultaneously pursued a degree in History at the University of Sao Paulo and attended the Universidade Livre de Musica Conservatory, as a guitar and voice student. For her senior project at FAAP, she participated as a Director of Photography in the 35mm film “Formigas”, commissioned by the Government of São Paulo. Since graduating, she has been working as a cinematographer and filmmaker, having worked for a wide range of clients and production companies and produced diverse TV and web content.
