As she moves from Brazil to NY, the filmmaker looks back at her grandma’s migration as a way to find traces of her own identity. The foreign yet intimate look at NYC and its inhabitants unfolds into a visual letter as she collects images of her new surroundings.
Director Bio:
Fernanda Faya is 31 years old and was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She graduated from Faculdade Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP) with a degree in Film Studies and a concentration in cinematography, in 2008. Faya simultaneously pursued a degree in History at the University of Sao Paulo and attended the Universidade Livre de Musica Conservatory, as a guitar and voice student. For her senior project at FAAP, she participated as a Director of Photography in the 35mm film “Formigas”, commissioned by the Government of São Paulo. Since graduating, she has been working as a cinematographer and filmmaker, having worked for a wide range of clients and production companies and produced diverse TV and web content.
