Summer 2025 5-Week 2D, Stop Action Motion and Claymation Animation Course Ages 12-17

  • Meeting Schedule & Venue:
    • June 30-August 1, 2025 (July 4 vacation) with final exhibition of projects on Friday Aug 1st pm.
    • Hours: Monday-Friday, 12.30pm-5.30pm
    • Venue: Foundry Church, 1500, 16th Street, Washington DC, 20036 (3 blocks to Dupont Metro- Red Line)
    • Field Trips are likely to be Tuesday or Friday
  • APPLY HERE: We accept on a rolling basis and will let you know within a week of your application
  • Content: Try your hand at two forms of animation: stop motion, including claymation, and 2D animation, both hand drawn and digital. Everyone works both individually and in teams on equipment provided by DCIFF. You will also learn how to use easily available online animation tools, set up space to film and work to produce a final film that everyone has contributed to. Speakers dn field trips as well.
  • Staff: This program is led by a trained animator and assistant. Our teaching team has a wealth of experience in filmmaking and we know students love them and the program! 
  • Here’s what each week entails:
    • Weeks 1-2: Learn essential tools and techniques – flip books and intro to character animation
    • Weeks 3: Stop Motion and Claymation
    • Week 4-5: Producing a final short stop motion film
  • Cost: FREE of charge for all participants except for: $60 (DC) / $85 (non DC) required registration fee on acceptance and $25 requested per week for healthy snacks ($125 total minus the registration fee) due by June 23rd, 2025.
  • Size: Up to 16 students.
  • Equipment: Provided, but if you have a laptop or tablet / pencils and paper for drawing, do bring!
  • Requirements: You must attend 75% of the course to receive a Certificate of Completion and to be listed as Crew on a project. So taking a one week vacation is fine.
