Implications of the Adobe Hack on Filmmakers

On October 3rd, Adobe reported more than 2.9 million users were affected by a cyber attack on their system. Last week, it was revealed this number is actually 152 million, making it the largest hack in history. Attackers reportedly removed “customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and other information relating to customer orders.” According to a company blog post, Adobe does not believe any decrypted credit or debit cards were taken.

This is especially poignant for any filmmakers utilizing Adobe’s Creative Cloud services, a monthly subscription and cloud-based service for their Creative Suite. Software-as-a-service (SaaS) programs like Creative Cloud rely on a recurring payment structure. This means any credit card information stored is extremely vulnerable. All customers affected should have received an email from Adobe. To be safe, we urge all readers to change any current and overlapping passwords, then reset to 15+ characters with a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and punctuation.
