Screens with A Swingin’ Trio, 2011 / 80 mins / USA / directed by Kelvin Phillips

A film that resonates with narrative intensity and drama.  One night, after returning home with a crew of his friends, Markees, an African-American twenty-something, finds a drunken African man passed out in their apartment building hallway. After ridiculing the drunk, the young men realize that the he is actually Markees’s Nigerian-immigrant stepfather.  Tensions build. Can Markees fly in the face of urban machismo and his own youthful pride to stop this collision course before someone really gets hurt.

Director Moon Molson‘s  previous short “Pop Foul” screened at over 100 film festivals, including the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, and won 41 awards worldwide, including the 2006 Student Academy Award. His most recent short “Crazy Beats Strong Every Time” formed the basis for his 2008 Sundance Lab project “Meadowlandz,” which also won Best Screenplay at the 2008 Urbanworld Film Festival. Moon lives in Manhattan, where he continues to make films about Jersey that are shot in Brooklyn.

Jayda Thompson (Producer) is a Columbia University MFA film grad.  A camera geek at heart, Jayda studied photography in the visual arts department during her thesis years. After graduation, Jayda plans to apply for a Fulbright grant, write and produce for the big screen.
