Summit on the Hill: Where Art Meets Policy

What does Congress have to do with the art of independent film? This is a question we address annually at our unique “Summit on the Hill” series, which brings the intersection of art and law to the nation’s capital.

Held in collaboration with the Congressional Creative Rights Caucus the Summit provides an open forum for filmmakers and the public to engage in discussions with lawmakers and experts on the most pressing issues affecting the industry. For 2025, the Summit will focus on online film distribution and its related challenges—such as piracy, the impact of AI, the decline of small theaters, and the pursuit of equal opportunity for filmmakers.

This year’s Summit will take place during the festival, from February 12-17, 2025, and attendance is free. We invite filmmakers, industry professionals, and the public to join us for this important discussion at the nexus of technology, law, and art.

Why These Conversations Matter

The rapid evolution of film distribution through online platforms has created both opportunities and challenges for independent filmmakers.
